Catching up - Part 4: What needs doing

Once the Pajero was home we gave her a once-over to see what we need to fix for roadworthy.
The list we came up with at the time was:

Body:
Straighten or replace LHF Panel, Pop Dent and fix surface rust in roof, Straighten Panel under Grill, Pop / Patch dent in bonnet, Patch crack in LHR Flare, Straighten Bullbar, Replace missing rear mudflap, replace both rhs door handles, replace lhs mirror, fix sticking fuel flap.

Electrical:
Replace blown dash globes, replace spotlight wiring, replace number plate globes, replace LHR Lower tail light lens, replace LH bulbar combo light, replace antenna mast, reconnect horn

Interior:
Replace Steering wheel
Running gear:

Replace tyres to match, adjust park brake, replace belts, fix oil leaks, replace rhf drive shaft, replace lhf cv boots.

And then there were the extra things I just wanted to do anyway:
swap radio, install uhf, swap trailer plug, wiper blades, oils etc.

It’s a fair list, but really not much in the too hard basket (As I will vent about in later posts I soon realise that I am completely wrong on this point – especially when it came to dealing with someone’s ridiculous lack of knowledge when it comes to wiring) and overall I'm quite happy with it’s condition being a 21 year old 4x4. Its obvious that before it made the trip across from WA it had all the suspension, brakes, filters, etc. replaced so I’m reasonably confident it has been kinda looked after…



Well i think that's enough for the catch up part of this blog, next post will be some actual repairs!

Luckily for us my uncle lives not far from Cairns so we got the pajero delivered to his place. One of the first things he did was remove the all blacks crap and give the battery a charge. after a quick look he reckons if we replace the front left tyre, windscreen and headlight then it should be driveable. Dad flew up and spent a couple days putting an old radio in and replacing those bits and bobs and straightening the panels enough to make it all fit. After replacing the battery and trying to figure out how the immobiliser actually works she fired up ok - blowing a little smoke though. Catching up - Part 2: 20 years in the making

I've always loved a Pajero! I can remember spending weekends with my best mate as a kid riding into town and going through all the dealerships checking out the latest stock and daydreaming - we even had a pretty good shtick going (well, we thought it was convincing - looking back it's a bit embarrassing really - I'm just glad we are thousands of km away now) we were sons of rich parents looking to see what car we wanted for our birthday... what losers... Anyway - i can distinctly remember the first time I saw the NL Pajero - with those fantastic blisters on the sides, coated in that beautiful metallic teal/grey two tone paintwork... I wanted one! Well fast forward 20 years, I've had a few Falcons, a commodore, two 1985 626's, corollas, a rodeo, and currently a Forester - but never a pajero, the closest I've came is a V8 Disco - every time we got a car it was thinking "we cant afford x, but y will last us a few years and we might be able to then"
