Catching up - Part 3: Getting her home

Luckily for us my uncle lives not far from Cairns so we got the pajero delivered to his place.

One of the first things he did was remove the all blacks crap and give the battery a charge. after a quick look he reckons if we replace the front left tyre, windscreen and headlight then it should be driveable. Dad flew up and spent a couple days putting an old radio in and replacing those bits and bobs and straightening the panels enough to make it all fit. After replacing the battery and trying to figure out how the immobiliser actually works she fired up ok - blowing a little smoke though.

He drove it back down to the sunny coast, i met him at gympie to drive the rest of the way. first impressions: apart from the burning oil smell the motor is relatively good for how many kms are on the clock - nice and smooth, put your foot down and as the late great Jeremy Clarkson once said POWER!!!

steering was a little sloppy - but i put it down to the one highway tread and one mud tyre on the front, brakes are good, overall not as bad as i was expecting! needed a huuuuge clean out - i reckon there was about 5kg of tobacco in the consoles and carpet and just obviously hadn't had a bath in a while.

before pulling in at home i stopped at my grandparents around the corner so they could have a look, now between there place and mine - all of 1km - you have to turn right up a small but steep hill, "fuck it" i thought loudly to myself, once the path was clear i bloody planted the foot down! It's been a couple years since I've driven something bigger than the forester's 2.0L four and bloody hell have i missed that feeling - she flew up like it was downhill!

Maybe I'm quietly thrilled to have the v6... maybe...
